You Should Do This! It's Fun!

Go geocache hunting!  It is really fun!  The kids found treasure and I got out of the house for an adventure.  It's a win-win. 

This is how it works.  Someone hides an item (usually a box filled with "treasure").  They go online and post the coordinates.  You type the coordinates into a gps enabled devise and go find the treasure.  If you take something, you're supposed to replace it.  For instance the girls picked out a couple of happymeal toys and Bubbers picked a weird plastic finger out of the cache we found.  We replaced those things with a waterproof pouch, a keychain flashlight, and an unopened container of playdoh.

There are literally geocache sites all over the world.  Within 10 miles of my house there are tons!!
Go to this website and type in your current address.  It will bring up a list of sites near you. 

We had a great time in the search.  The one we found today was along a hiking trail and hidden under a fallen tree.  No adventure is complete without someone falling in water, so Averlin was sure to fulfill that obligation by slipping on some rocks and landing on her bum in a stream we crossed. Twice.  Jeff said her adventurer name is now "Mossy Bum." Also she had to pee the whole time, but at least she didn't complain.  It was so exciting to look around for the little box and was SO great when we actually found it!    Here are a couple of pics from our first geocache adventure:
